SEI created Solar In the Schools (SIS) in April 2002 to develop a comprehensive curriculum for grades K-12 that meets Colorado’s established standards for science. The SIS program offers a model renewable energy (RE) education curriculum tailored for youth that includes class discussions, interactive and hands-on activities on renewable energy, and scientific experimentation that fosters critical thinking. SEI believes it is crucial to both promote sustainability and provide a curriculum that will become a permanent part of the basic science curriculum long after SEI has left the classroom. We also just love to inspire kids to participate in finding solutions to our current energy needs – renewable energy education does just that! Since its inception, thousands of students and teachers In addition to our regional outreach, we aim to help youth and youth educators from around the country find local and Website Resources to help them learn more about renewable energy and resource efficiency and to answer their Frequently Asked Questions. In 2007, SEI created its first accredited teacher training workshop entitled, Renewable Energy for Educators. This annual 4 day workshop allows us to effectively increase our national outreach by bringing in participating youth educators from around the country to learn in the inspiring setting of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Finally, we like to encourage a level of fun and creativity to compliment the science of renewable energy. We have inspired many youth with our various displays and presentations, Solar In the Schools is one of SEI’s Charitable Programs and would not be possible without the support of our members, financial donors, and partnering organizations. Thanks to the many people out there who believe in youth education – we couldn’t have done all of this without you! Knowledge is Power!
